Testimonials
We were pleased to report to our physician our daughter’s weight loss, because she was a child at risk. She has a family history of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Thanks again.
I think the program was unusual and innovative. It helped both of us become more conscious of what we eat and how we need to find more ways to exercise. It was a lot of fun too. Nothing would have changed if we had not go through the program. It was really difficult getting a sedentary kid to get more exercise. Using the ball seems to have done the trick. Now he’s more interested in other activities.
My mom signed me up for this class. It was awsome!

Growing Up Fit Program
Education
The educational component last 20-25 minutes and is typically scheduled during the weekday sessions. A different topic is covered each week. Topics include the food pyramid, reading labels, eating out, and packing lunches.
Exercise
The exercise component of the program is very innovative. Certified instructors lead the group in aerobic, stretching, and strengthening activities using large fitness balls. Time is saved at the end of the class for “fun and games” activities such as volleyball, obstacle courses, and relay races.
Behavioral Changes
Participants are encouraged to keep activity and nutrition logs. These logs are kept so participants stay motivated and understand the connection between the amount of energy taken in and the amount of energy used. Parental or caretaker involvement is critical for successful outcomes in managing weight in children. Growing up Fit encourages positive, pro-active parental and sibling involvement forging a “team effort” in addressing the child’s weight issues. This model provides families with the opportunity to come together, support each other, and commit to making a positive change in lifestyle.
